"totally recommend."

Great service by Sarah. I think what helped me most was that she was able to isolate the problem and provide specific exercises that really helped, moreso than if I were to try to self-heal. totally recommend.

How does ultrasound therapy work?

The technology behind these treatments involves the use of sound waves. These sound waves are used to treat conditions affecting the muscles, ligaments, and bones by creating vibrations that generate heat.

When the tissues vibrate, friction is produced at the molecular level, which causes the temperature of the tissues to increase.

While heating packs can be effective in warming up an affected area, they are unable to reach the tissues in the same way that ultrasound technology can.

When an ultrasound treatment is being conducted, our Bloor West Village and Kingsway physiotherapists will put gel on the surface of the ultrasound applicator, in order to promote the transmission of the sound waves. These waves are then absorbed by your tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues.

What kinds of ultrasound treatments are there?

There are two main ways that ultrasound works to heal and repair damaged tissues in the body. The first includes the thermal energy (heat) benefits and the second includes the non-thermal benefits:

Thermal benefits

When used in a certain way, ultrasound technology can create heat in the deep tissues. This deep heating effect helps to reduce pain and tightness, increase blood circulation, and promote healing.

Non-thermal benefits

This technology can work in beneficial ways that are unrelated to its transfer of heat.

The energy that enters the body during an ultrasound treatment can increase blood circulation and promote healing of damaged tissues such as muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

What to expect from ultrasound therapy

At your initial appointment, a physiotherapist will conduct a physical exam that will help in the diagnosis of your condition and how it should be treated.

At PhysioPlus Health Group, our highly trained Bloor West Village and Kingsway physiotherapists will create a treatment plan for your specific symptoms and needs. This could include these treatments, depending on the nature of your condition and contributing symptoms.

Your treatment plan will also take into account your medical history and any additional health restrictions you may have.

Is this therapy right for my condition?

These treatments can treat a vast variety of conditions.

Some common conditions that ultrasound helps treat include, but are not limited to:

  • Arthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sprains, strains, and tears
  • Fractures
  • Muscle spasms
  • Tendinitis

These treatments help to increase blood flow, reduce swelling and inflammation, and promote the healing of tissues.

This is how this therapy is able to successfully treat and reduce the painful symptoms of multiple conditions.
