Back pain is an issue that affects up to 36% of people EACH YEAR.
Luckily, this is a condition that can be treated by a skilled chiropractor.
One of our patients that we’ll call M.L. suffered from back pain before seeing our chiropractor.
After getting treatment from our team, she stated that:
“I received exceptional service for my back pain…I am now able to exercise regularly, and my range of motion improved in a short period of time”
…which is something that we hope to improve for all of our clients!
5 Ways a Chiropractor Can Help Relieve Back Pain
1. Spinal Adjustments
When most people think of chiropractors, they think of people who solely do back adjustments and help re-align your spine.
It’s true that chiropractors are trained to adjust your back to help get the joints in your back moving better.
These adjustments can also improve the function of your muscles and nerves depending on which structures in your body appear to cause your symptoms.
For an adjustment, the chiropractor will apply a fast but gentle movement to your back to help stretch the joint and make your spine return to a better position so that it can move better.
But wait, a skilled chiropractor’s expertise doesn’t stop here!

2. Active Release Therapy
Active Release Therapy, also known as ART, is a hands-on technique that’s used by chiropractors to help decrease your pain and improve your range of motion and mobility.
This technique is done by a trained chiropractor to help break down scar tissue in your muscles, tendons, or nerves that have resulted from things like injury, overuse, and poor posture.
First, the chiropractor evaluates the tightness and the amount of movement in your muscles and other structures in your body like your tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, and nerves.
After this assessment, the chiropractor treats any areas in your body that aren’t functioning properly.
They will do this by using their hands to apply pressure during specific movements to help release tight areas, which will help to improve your range of motion and decrease your pain.

3. Exercise and Functional Strengthening
Your chiropractor will teach you exercises that you can do at home to help strengthen your muscles.
Strengthening your muscles is important so that they can function better and help to decrease the load that’s being put on your joints. This will also help to decrease your back pain and prevent it from coming back!
The chiropractor will give you exercises that will help you to do your regular activities in a way that’s better for your body.
For example, they might teach you how to improve your posture, give you guidance on how to lift objects safely, or even show you exercises to improve your performance in your sport in a pain-free way.
Remember, strong muscles are healthy muscles!
4. Education and Answering Your Questions
Chiropractors are experts in assessing your body, finding the source of your pain, and treating it.
They are well-equipped to answer any questions that you may have about things you can do to heal your injury, things you should avoid, how long it might take for you to get better, and any other related questions you may have.
Your chiropractor will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about your pain – just ask!
Their ultimate goal is to work together with you to find a long-term solution that helps to address your needs and makes you feel better, sooner.

5. Modalities, Acupuncture, and More!
Some chiropractors have specialized training in other treatments to help treat your condition more effectively.
Acupuncture is used by trained chiropractors to help reduce pain, decrease muscle tightness, and improve your function by stimulating blood flow and creating a better healing environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell if I need an adjustment?
If you’re having issues or pain related to your body, you may benefit from getting an adjustment by a chiropractor.
Adjustments can help with issues like joint stiffness, headaches, back or neck pain, and more.
During your first visit, a chiropractor can appropriately assess you to see if you would benefit from an adjustment. Book now to see a chiropractor and get your symptoms treated.
Can chiropractic adjustments cause arthritis?
Chiropractic care can actually improve symptoms for some types of arthritis like osteoarthritis. It can help your joints move better and reduce your pain.
Extra care is used for some inflammatory types of arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis to not further aggravate the joints.
If you have arthritis, a chiropractor will carefully consider your specific type of arthritis and create a safe and effective treatment plan to help treat and alleviate your pain.
The chiropractor may use adjustments or a combination of other treatments for your arthritis like ultrasound, acupuncture, electrotherapy, soft tissue massage, and more.
How many chiropractic visits does it take to feel better?
Good chiropractors aim to make you feel better as quickly as possible in as little visits as possible.
The number of visits it takes to completely resolve and manage your pain depends on factors like when your condition started, what type of condition you have, and some other lifestyle factors.
Many people tend to feel pain relief right after a treatment session. However, it usually takes at least several sessions to make long-lasting changes to your pain.
More simple conditions can take a few weeks to resolve, and more complex conditions may take a few months or longer.
The chiropractor will assess your condition during your first visit and determine a treatment plan for you.
They will outline your diagnosis and the estimated number of visits it will take to create long-term changes and improve your overall function.
