What is In-Home Occupational Therapy?

In-home Occupational Therapy (OT) brings rehabilitation and support directly to you, in the comfort of your own space. Instead of travelling to the clinic, an occupational therapist comes to your home to provide personalized care that fits your daily routines and environment.

During sessions, your therapist may work with you on mobility, self-care, home safety, energy conservation, meal preparation skills, stress management, or cognitive strategies- always focusing on what matters most to you. We assess your unique needs and provide recommendations for equipment, adaptive techniques, or modifications that make everyday tasks safer and easier.

The biggest benefit of in-home OT is that therapy happens where life happens. Whether it’s practicing safe transfers in your bathroom, reorganizing your kitchen to reduce strain, or learning strategies to manage memory and focus while paying bills, therapy is tailored to the activities and environment that are most meaningful to you.

How does In-Home Occupational Therapy Work?

Occupational-Therpaist-Erin-Walkovich-does-assessment-wth-patient

In-home occupational therapy brings professional care and support right to your doorstep. Instead of travelling to a clinic, your therapist comes to you to work with you in the environment where you spend most of your time. This makes therapy practical, personal, and tailored to your daily life.

The process typically begins with an assessment. Your occupational therapist will get to know you, your health history, and your goals. From there, they create a personalized plan that might include strategies to manage symptoms, exercises to build strength or coordination, tools and equipment to make daily life easier, and coaching to help you or your loved one feel more confident.

In-home occupational therapy can benefit people of all ages. Children may receive therapy to help with developmental milestones, sensory processing, or school-related skills.

Teens and young adults may focus on recovering from a concussion or on building skills to navigate major life transitions- such as transitioning out of sports involvement or adapting to the uncertainties of life after high school.

Adults may focus on getting back to work or daily routines after injury or illness, while seniors often receive support with fall prevention, home safety, and aging in place.

No matter the stage of life, the goal of in-home occupational therapy is the same: to help you do the things that matter most to you, in the place where you live and feel comfortable. By combining clinical expertise with a real-world setting, occupational therapy makes meaningful change possible right at home.
